Up to one year in prison and fines between BGN 500 and 1,000 in the absence of Civil Liability Insurance - this is provided by the already promulgated changes in the Penal Code.

Last week, the new amendments to the Road Traffic Act were finally adopted. Drivers without a license will have their car registration revoked. The plates will be removed on the spot, and the small ticket will be withdrawn for a period of half to one year. Deregistration will also apply to driving after using drugs, narcotics or alcohol with more than 0.5 per mille in the blood. The booklet will be taken for a year when the alcohol is over 0.8 per mille.
