Zurich Insurance Group chief financial officer Pierre Votier was found dead at his home in Geneva, the company's headquarters said.

His post will be temporarily occupied by Vibhu Sharma.

At the request of his close details are not reported.

The board of directors, governing bodies and all colleagues are deeply saddened and express their condolences to the family and relatives, the company said in a special statement.

Police are investigating Votier's death. He was born in 1960 and has dual citizenship - British and French. He has a master's degree in finance and law.

He worked for financial headquarters such as KPMG and JP Morgan before settling in Zurich Insurance in 1996. In September 2011, he was appointed CFO of the company.

Zurich Insurance reported revenue decline for the second quarter of 27% to $ 789 million. The cause was the floods in Central Europe and a series of tornadoes in the United States.

Votier's death came just a month after another death in Switzerland shook the country. At the end of July, the 49-year-old head of the Swisscom mobile operator Carsten Schloter committed suicide.
