Which are the most stolen cars in Bulgaria

The most stolen cars are those aged about 10 years, and the goal is to be sold for spare parts.

The most stolen car brands are "Volkswagen", "BMW", "Audi", "Mercedes" and "Toyota".

About 2,700 cars were stolen, cut up and sold in parts last year.

According to the investigators, the thieves sell stolen older models of jeeps and cars at auto morgues and auto parts stores at prices between BGN 600 and 3,000.

The press center of the Ministry of Interior announced that during a specialized police operation to stop the sale and distribution of stolen car parts and sabotage of cross-border traffic of incriminated vehicles, police seized 11 stolen cars and parts of three other cars included in the search in the Schengen Information System ( SIS). The specialized action took place in the period May 16-18 and is part of the international operation "SPARE PARTS". It was conducted under the auspices of the Center for Law Enforcement in Southeast Europe, Bucharest, Romania. During the operation, 6,895 vehicles, 8,719 persons and over 11,550 documents were inspected. 78 acts for violations of the Road Traffic Act and the Bulgarian Identity Documents Act have been drawn up. Law enforcement agencies have issued 97 slips for road violations. 14 pre-trial proceedings have been instituted.

What to do if you find that your car is missing?

Once you have determined that your car is missing, it is advisable to first call "Parking lots and garages" to check if your car is not picked up due to improper parking.

However, if you get a negative answer you should:

• Call the police and the insurer and report the theft;
• Then head to the nearest police station. There you must bring the car ticket (registration certificate);
• You must complete an application describing when and where you last left the car, as well as when you found it missing. It is important to know that the application must include a description of the car - registration number, color, model. Once you have completed the description, the application must be signed by you and the investigator on duty;
• You must sign a statement stating that if you find your car yourself before the police, you will notify them immediately to end the search;
• Once you submit the application and the declaration to the station, there is nothing else I can do. Things are taken over by the police officer, who sends a telegram for a national or international search (depending on the case) and keeps a report for a crime.
