"We do not rule out that the company will launch a hydrogen-powered car in the near future. According to him, the concern is fully prepared to develop such a technology," BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer was quoted as saying by Autocar.

"In our work on future power units, we follow a perfectly clear principle - reasonable diversity," commented Reithofer. "This is our new direction, which we have called zero emissions mobility. Now for urban traffic we have i3, and for longer trips - i8. For even longer distances, we are considering launching a hydrogen-powered electric car. "

The head of BMW added that the serial version of the i8 will be shown at the upcoming exhibition in Frankfurt. Its first version - the concept coupe Vision Efficient Dynamics, appeared in public in 2009, and the pre-production version was shown in the fall of 2011, again in Frankfurt.

BMW's first hybrid supermodel relies on a power unit with a total output of 350 hp. It includes a 3-cylinder turbo engine and electric motor, and this combination should allow the i8 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 5 seconds. And the fuel consumption should be about 3 l / 100 km.
