Since November, BMW launches its first all-electric model BMW i3 with the ambition to become a "significant player" on the market, informs BGNES. "We are entering this market to be a significant actor," said Ian Robertson, commercial director of the German car company, at the presentation of the new model.

The market for this type of electric car remains "immature" and limited, Robertson acknowledged. The BMW i3 will sell for around € 34,950 in Europe and $ 41,350 in the US. From November, it will be released in major European markets in Germany, France, Italy or the United Kingdom, and from next year in the United States, Japan and China. "We expect California to be a big market for us," Robertson said.

The all-electric car is designed for city trips, but BMW will offer its customers to rent its classic cars for longer journeys, such as vacations. "From the very beginning, we will make profits for every car produced," Robertson said.

"Consumers are still reluctant to use all-electric cars" due to a lack of recharging infrastructure, said Ian Henry, director of AutoAnalysis. But BMW does not make many mistakes and I think it will be a success, "added the analyst. The luxury hybrid model i8 will be released next year, according to AFP.
