Allianz Bulgaria Life and Bulstrad Life Vienna Insurance Group are the two largest life insurance companies in Bulgaria.
The data as of June 30 of the Financial Supervision Commission show that they hold 21.4 and 16.6 percent of the market, respectively. The third position is for DZI Life Insurance with 11.1 percent, ahead of Uniqa Life and Trade Union VZK, holding respectively 10.5 and 9.5% of the market. UBB - Metlife and Metlife Bulgaria have 8.2 and 6.5%, while Grave Bulgaria Life Insurance has 4.6%.
Currently, 16 companies operate in the country, with their gross premium income for the first half of the year amounting to BGN 146,529 million, which is an increase of 15.8% on an annual basis with an increase of 0.6% at the end of June 2012. The largest share in the premium income realized by life insurers, it occupies life insurance and annuity - 75.6%. Life insurance, related to an investment fund, occupies a share of 5.6% in the structure of the portfolio of life insurers.
