The busiest road route in Bulgaria is the Sofia Ring Road. Between 20,000 and 35,000 cars pass there a day. This reveals the new automatic system of the Road Infrastructure Agency, which counts the traffic.
The traffic on the road II-81 Kostinbrod - Montana is also intensive - between 15,000 and 20,000 vehicles per day, II-17 Botevgrad - Mezdra - about 10,000 vehicles per day, II-64 Plovdiv - Graf Ignatievo - nearly 15,000 vehicles on day, II-99 Chernomorets - Primorsko - between 10,000 and 15,000 vehicles per day, II-19 Razlog - Bansko - between 5,000 and 10,000 vehicles per day, II-15 Vratsa - Oryahovo - between 7,000 and 10,000 vehicles per day, road II-62 Dupnitsa - Samokov - about 10,000 vehicles per day, etc.
120 cameras are already monitoring the second and third class roads in all districts of the country. The system was built with European money and costs BGN 2.8 million.
From now on, road repairs will be financed according to the data from the meters. There are sensors in the asphalt that divide the vehicles into 7 classes according to their weight.
The cameras measure the speed and record the type and number of the car, but for now this information will not be provided to the Traffic Police, the agency informed.
The system is expected to save up to BGN 3.5 million, as until now the information was collected manually.
