The security of 70 bus stops on the main boulevards of the capital, where there is increased traffic, has started, Trud reported. The Sofia Municipality's measures began after a taxi driver lost control of his car in July and crashed into a bus stop on Tsarigradsko Shosse Blvd., killing two people, including a 6-year-old girl.
At the moment, massive concrete pegs are being installed at 36 stops. They are mainly on the Ring Road and Tsarigradsko Shosse Blvd. Deputy Mayor Lyubomir Hristov explained that at one of the largest bus stops - at the Pliska Hotel, "lying policemen" were built in the local lane around the parking lot.
Consideration is being given to what security measures should be taken on the island itself, where people are waiting for public transport. As it is narrow, pegs could not be installed so far so as not to interfere with passengers getting on and off.
