The registration of cars without "Civil Liability" will be officially terminated. This was decided yesterday by the deputies from the Economic Commission during the vote on the second reading of the Insurance Code.
"After notification from the Guarantee Fund and giving a period of 15 days, if the owner does not fulfill its obligation, the fund will notify the registration service and we will terminate it ex officio," said Boyko Ranovski, head of the Traffic Police. Car numbers will not be removed.
The aim is to stop the cases in which Bulgarians sell their cars with a power of attorney to foreigners. After that, the foreign citizens continue to drive the cars with Bulgarian license plates and in case of an accident the compensations are paid by our Guarantee Fund. The claims for covering such damages are for tens of millions of levs. Most such cases are in Romania and Italy.
The insurance industry has long insisted on the introduction of such texts. There is no measure in the current Road Traffic Act that includes temporary revocation of vehicle registration. Such has been proposed with changes in the law, which have not yet been voted on even at first reading in parliament.
