The best-selling car in the world continues to be the Toyota Corolla, according to statistics from the Focus2Move agency. For the first time in history, the Japanese model crosses the limit of 1.3 million sales per year, and a kind of record was achieved by the second in the ranking - VW Golf.
World sales of Toyota Corolla for 2015 reached 1,339,024 units, which is not achieved by any other car. The growth compared to 2014 is 5.4%, as Focus2Move clarifies that the Japanese model has never reported a decline in sales.
The strongest market for Corolla was the United States, where 363,332 units were sold. It is followed by China with 300,641 and Japan with 109,022 sales. The model showed the biggest growth on the Romanian market - as much as 73.6% compared to the year before.
The second place for 2015 remains for VW Golf. The best-selling car in Europe also set a record, crossing the 1 million sales mark for the first time. The total number of sales on world markets reached 1,041,279, an increase of 8.4%.
The strongest market for the model remains Germany, which accounts for 270,952 sales. They are followed by China with 195,845, Great Britain with 75,038 and the United States with 65,308 sales. Although the so-called Dieselgate erupted in the United States, in this market the German model grew by as much as 93.9% compared to 2014. The most significant increase in sales is in the Mexican market - as much as 145%.
Third place in sales is for the best-selling car in the United States for the last 40 years - Ford F-Series. The pickup realized 920,172 sales worldwide in 2015, which is a minimum growth of 1.6%.
Fourth in the ranking for 2015 is the Ford Focus. The model, which ranked second in the last two years, fell by almost 20% compared to 2014, recording a total of 826,221 worldwide sales in 2015. The main factor for this result was the Chinese market, where the model fell by 37% .
Another Toyota model - Camry - is in the top five. Its result is 754,154 sales, which is a drop of 1.9%.
