Although the Sofia Municipality introduced changes a year ago to tighten the regime, such signals continue to be received. Deputy Mayor for Finance Doncho Barbalov announced that the introduction of unified forms of documents from all municipalities in the country for paid car tax is being prepared. . Currently, each local government issues different-looking documents.

The aim is that the technical inspection points cannot justify that each local government has different forms and thus cannot establish the authenticity of the document. Barbalov held talks with the National Association of Municipalities, which has agreed to such a change since the beginning of 2015. In this way, the placement of a hologram sticker in Sofia will be abolished.

The association has also agreed to gradually connect the systems of local governments, which are run across the country by three companies - the state-run Information Services and two private ones, to the technical inspection posts.

Deputy Mayor Barbalov also spoke with the Automobile Administration with a request to impose fines on violators.

They also agreed to close the loophole in the Local Taxes and Fees Act, which allows for an examination without paying the tax. Hopes are that after the October 5 elections, a government and a National Assembly will be formed to change the law.

A unique holographic sticker was also introduced, which is placed on the document for paid motor vehicle tax in order to stop the abuse of the paid tax notes. The measures also yielded results, because this year the Sofia Municipality has collected BGN 57 million, which is BGN 7 million more by August 1 compared to the same period last year.
