I&G Brokers proudly became the main sponsor of the 6th Open Weightlifting Tournament, held in the town of Knezha—a place known for producing many of Bulgaria’s great weightlifters. The company supported the event, organized by the local club "Mizia", which aims to expand the tournament every year.
“It was an honor and a great pleasure for us to contribute to this competition. Supporting sports should be a priority for any society. We believe that such events are essential for the development of sports at a national level, and that athletes contribute to the health of our nation,” said Mr. Nikolay Zdravkov, Manager of I&G Brokers.
This year’s edition saw a record number of 50 participants in the U13, U15, and U17 age groups, including female competitors. Athletes came from clubs across the country: Mizia (Knezha), Start (Cherven Bryag), Mihail Petrov (Gabrovo), Ruse, Hercules (Sofia), Titan (Varna), and Hristo Bachvarov (Sliven).
The event also served as the final test for the Bulgarian national men’s and women’s teams before the World Championships in Tashkent (December 7–17). Olympic champion Ivan Ivanov, the national head coach, used the tournament to finalize the squad heading to Uzbekistan. Among the selected were:
Nadezhda Mei-Nguyen (Ruse, 45 kg)
Angel Rusev (Ruse, 55 kg)
Valentin Genchev (Stara Zagora, 67 kg)
Carlos Nasar (Start, 81 kg)
Vasil Marinov (Sliven, 102 kg)
Hristo Hristov (Titan, 109 kg) – 5th at the Tokyo Olympics
