Gas has always been an alternative for domestic drivers, given that its price is close to half that of petrol and diesel.
And while the last two fuels are often talked about in public, the topic of gas seems to be less discussed. The good news is that for almost a year the price of gas has dropped by about 8 eurocents from 0.74 euros per liter to 0.666 euros per liter, or a little over 10%. For comparison, for the same period the price of gasoline and diesel in our country increased by about 2 eurocents, or 1.6%. The average price of gas in EU countries (for which data are available) is 72.5 eurocents per liter
The reduction in the price of gas is largely determined by the reduction of the surcharge that the oil sector contributes to the price per liter of gas - a decrease from 30.5 eurocents per liter to 26.9 eurocents per liter to date, or a decrease of 3.6 eurocents.
The surcharge of the oil sector forms 40.4% of the value of a liter of gas, while in the EU countries this percentage is on average 43.6. The other reason for the reduction in the price of gas lies in the reduction of the oil component in the price of a liter of gas from 21.8 eurocents per liter about a year ago to 19.3 eurocents now. Thus, the trend is completely opposite to that of diesel and gasoline, which registered an increase to date, despite the fall in oil prices for the period. The reason for this is an increase in the profit margin of the sector.
However, our country is not the EU member with the lowest gas prices. For comparison, in Latvia the price per liter of automobile gas is at the level of 52.8 eurocents per liter. Gas is lower in Poland - 59.6 cents, as well as in Luxembourg - 60.9 euro cents. The situation in our country is relatively good with regard to the much less popular heating fuel. At a price of 90.7 eurocents per liter, it is well below the EU average of 1.07 euros per liter, including in countries such as Romania - where it costs 1.17 euros per liter. The policy of low duties and excise duties on these fuels almost entirely contributes to the low price. They add just 2.6 eurocents to a liter, compared to 33 cents in Romania
