Shock luxury tax will be paid by the owners of powerful cars in Greece, and yacht owners will be taxed with new fees, the amount of which will be determined by the size of the vessel and the cubic capacity of the engine, the newspapers in the southern neighbor reported, quoted by BTA on Wednesday.
The tax applies to cars with more than 2000 hp. and is expected to affect one hundred thousand luxury vehicle owners.
Authorities have ordered the owners of such cars not to be exempt from the tax even if they return the registration numbers tomorrow. Such a tax will be paid for last year as well.
The purpose of the measure is to collect revenues in the treasury, which is also demanded by Greece's foreign creditors.
