An increase of 5.6 percent of the total eligible income realized by insurers in Bulgaria is reported for the period January - May 2013. This was announced by the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC). However, these data for the period January - May 2012 report a decrease of 4.4%. A relative place of 73.7% of the non-life insurance companies is allocated for car insurance ("Civil liability related to the possession and use of motor vehicles" and "Land vehicles, excluding rail vehicles"). On an annual basis, the total premium income for these types of insurance increased by 4.5% with a decrease of 5.6% at the end of May 2012. Property insurance ("Fire and natural disasters" and "Other property damage") occupy a share of 16.3% of the premium income realized in the sector. On an annual basis there is a decrease of 0.9% of the total premium income from property insurance with a decrease of 4.1% at the end of May 2012. An increase of 19.2% at the end of May is also reported in the written premiums by life insurers , as their premiums amount to BGN 127,189 thousand compared to BGN 106,700 thousand, recorded in the same period of 2012. Life insurance and rent occupy an honorable place - 76.4%. On an annual basis, an increase in premiums under this type of insurance of 20.3% is reported with a decrease of 0.9% at the end of May 2012. Gross premium income realized by voluntary health insurance companies for the period January - May 2013 amounts to BGN 19,049 thousand, which is a decrease of 17.3% compared to the same period of 2012.
