As of the end of November 2013, non-life insurance companies realized gross premium income in the amount of BGN 1,263 billion (including premiums for active reinsurance of insurers engaged in such activity), which is an increase of 8.1% on an annual basis . For comparison, at the end of November 2012 the general insurance sector reported a decline of 2.5% on an annual basis.
Car insurance ("Civil liability related to the possession and use of motor vehicles" and "Land vehicles, excluding rail vehicles") occupy a relative share of 69.1% in the aggregate portfolio of companies engaged in non-life insurance. On an annual basis, an increase in the total premium income for these types of insurance of 5.9% is reported compared to a decrease of 5.6%, calculated at the end of November 2012.
At the end of November 2013, property insurance (“Fire and natural disasters” and “Other property damage”), which accounted for 17.5% of the premium income realized in the sector, reported an increase in premiums of 0.6% on an annual basis.
The recorded premium income under Sickness Insurance increased from BGN 300 thousand at the end of November 2012 to BGN 33,467 thousand at the end of the reporting period. At the end of November 2013, seventeen non-life insurance companies realized premium income by type of insurance (including eleven relicensed health insurance companies), with OZOF Doverie ZAD occupying the largest market share (18%), ZOK Bulgaria Health ZAD (17%), Generali Zastrahovane AD (13.9%) and Euroins Health Insurance ZEAD EAD (12.7%).
