This year's European Car of the Year competition has been announced and the jury has published a list of 30 candidates who will compete for the award. The final results of the custom voting will be announced at the Geneva Motor Show in March next year.

Among the contenders for the first place were the new BMW 4-Series, Jaguar F-type, as well as the new generations of Mazda3, Toyota Corolla and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The list also includes 3 electric cars - BMW i3, Renault Zoe and Tesla Model S. We remind you that in 2011 such a car - Nissan Leaf, took first place.

In order for a car to be included in the competition, it must be new and sold by the end of the year at the latest in 5 or more European countries. Each of the applicants must have at least 5,000 sales per year, and for those who have not yet entered the market, an estimated sales result is reported.

Voting takes place in two stages, and after the results of the first, a short list with several nominees is formed. They will be announced in December. In the second, only the winner of the competition is determined, which will become clear on March 3, 2014.

Last year, the first place was awarded to the seventh generation of Volkswagen Golf, followed by the "twins" Toyota GT86 / Subaru BRZ and Volvo V40.
