Drivers driving in the opposite lane should be fined BGN 3,000, the National Assembly decided, which adopted at first reading the amendments to the Road Traffic Act.

3 bills were proposed to the MPs, and only two of them were adopted. According to one of the bills, a driver who drives in the oncoming lane on a motorway and expressway is punishable by deprivation of the right to drive a motor vehicle for a period of 6 months and a fine of BGN 3,000. Now the sanction is between BGN 20 and 150, because this is considered a violation of the rules for the use of the roadway. Other new texts provide for the introduction of winter tires for cars for the period November 1-March.

A new administrative measure is also introduced - revocation of the registration plate of a motor vehicle for one month, if the owner has not paid his fines to the Traffic Police or has exceeded the speed limit in a populated area by more than 50 km / h. In case of unpaid amounts for road violations, the offender's driver's license will be collected until he pays them.

The changes are aimed at new drivers of motor vehicles. The concept of "new leader" is introduced. This is a driver who acquires for the first time the right to drive a motor vehicle.

In the first two years after obtaining a driver's license to have 2/3 of their 39 points, it is provided in the amendments.

Fines for speeding in and out of settlements are also updated, doubling them (see end of article). For driving with a blood alcohol concentration of more than 0.5 per mille, drivers can now remain without a license for three times longer - up to a year and a half.

Proposed new speeding fines:

In a populated area

From 31 to 40 km / h - with a fine of BGN 400 instead of BGN 200;

Over 40 km / h - with a fine of BGN 600 instead of BGN 300;

Over 50 km / h - with a fine of BGN 700 instead of BGN 300, three months deprivation of the right to drive a motor vehicle, and for each additional 5 km / h exceeding 50 km / h the fine is increased by BGN 50.

Out of town

From 31 to 40 km / h - with a fine of BGN 300 instead of BGN 150;

Over 40 km / h - with a fine of BGN 400 instead of BGN 200;

Over 50 km / h - with a fine of BGN 600 instead of BGN 300, and for each additional 5 km / h exceeding 50 km / h the fine is increased by BGN 50.
